Us big ole tough guy powerlifters don't need no stinkin' physical, right? I'm 5'-7", 175 pounds, work out 5 days a week, and except for the Mt Dew, I eat pretty clean. Went for my physical yesterday. I have blood pressure of 140/90, my cholesterol is 210, and my fasting blood sugar is 125 (100 is the top of the healthy range). Fortunately the doc said I could manage most of these numbers with cardio. Unfortunately, I have to start back doing cardio. Guys, DO get your annual physical. I guess that now means DIET Mt Dew! God Bless.

Doug, I myself was a mtn dew junkie, until my physical five years ago. My triglycerides were 2,160! Diet and no dew dropped it to 900 eventually and then 600 last year. Now I'm on meds for it. I think it's supposed to be 150 or less. My cholesterol was really high also. And that was caught at 25 years old! And doc says no more creatine, says it raises blood pressure too much.
I have grown to hate diet dew!
I now like "Sobe adrenaline rush, sugar free"

I hate cardio, I despise it, but there is no denying that it does a body good!
At least you caught these things at a stage where you can deal with it without any lasting ill effects on your health. God bless.

Doug, I am certainly glad you caught this now before it had a chance to do any real harm and can still be controlled or even reversed. I am also glad you are man enough to share this info. I got my wakeup call (physical) a few years ago, did my research and got myself back in line with just a few minor adjustments. Listen to your doctor but do your own research also. Mike: Triglycerides at 2160. I thought mine were bad at 770. Glad to see you are getting that under control.

Good advice Dopar. I am dealing with my Mother and Mother-in-law who are both type II diabetic. It is not an easy thing to deal with when it gets out of control. Not surprisingly my wife and I are real tight on what we eat. One real crazy thing I learned is 1 tps cinnamon a day will aid in bringing the blood sugar levels down a bit. Just don't do as someone I will not name and think the cinnamon on sweet rolls will counter all those carbs.

God Bless. Actually, the cholesterol and sugar levels aren't that bad--in fact, I've never heard any one call 100 the top of the healthy range. My wife is hypoglycemic and must constantly work to keep her sugar level high enough. She functions best at a level around 130. She was once rushed into the emergency room in a near-comatose state with a sugar level of 70. Also, sugar level varies more for normal subjects than does blood pressure and 70 would not be shockingly low for some people, but I certainly wouldn't worry about 125.

Sorry to hear about the cardio. It does suck but like everyone else said it must be done. Sad but true

Me, too. Never been comatose, but if I don't eat regularly I tend to barf. That's not good when you're teaching a night class..... trust me....... But thanks for the info, PTS!
Latest update.
Started doing cardio last Monday. Weighed last Tuesday for a baseline. 177. Started off with 30 minutes of cardio, 4-5 times/week, working up to 25 minutes of running, 5 minutes of walking (warmup and cooldown). Weighed this Tuesday and was all the way down to 182. By the time I run the Boston Marathon I should be a 308......
I hate to confess this, but I'm also down to 1 dew a day.....
:')
God Bless!

Glad to hear all is well Doug. I switched to diet pop (1 a day) years ago and have never looked back. Once you get used to it, it is ok. I hate cardio too but it is a necessary evil.
