Ok guys, dont know how many of you know anything about weightlifting,im litle resrching last months about this russians lifters, and i found that they were very strong, even stronger than powerlifters now...Westside take lot of things especialy from russians, and grab them like they invent them. I want you to read this interwiev with one of the soviet best lifters Leonid Taranenko, how he trained and compare this with trainings of powerlifters today. He also said how much he squat and how many times he traind in one week, but i will leave it that you read yourself. Also here are some his lifts youtube.com/watch?v=gsXY7KxegAcyoutube.com/watch?v=fIj5LPcteswAnd here is interwiev and there is also some interesting staff on this page. "Taranenko: I train six days per week: three-times per day for three days, for a total of six (6) hours per day and twice-a-day, for the other three days, for a total of four (4) hours each day."I think I'll stay with the Starr 5X5 for now.

I was a little confused with the Westside/Russian analogy in this case. I have yet to see a major supporting article by Louie expressing the need for large amounts of volume, particularly every day squatting and sometimes "twice a day". In all respect, Louie does do a great deal of acknowledging his sources, in particular Russian strength coaches (Vladimir Zatsiorski comes to mind).
Taranenko is without a doubt a machine. I don't know of any American Powerlifters who are paid 40,000$ a year and assigned the nations top strength coaches with their full time occupation being to lift. That would certainly be a dream. (This is for powerlifting, I'm not sure how well our Olympic lifters are compensated).

Yes,it is a bit shocking, train squats every day...i train like athletes,3times per week. Dont know for america, but gold medals in weightlifting,on olympics, world&european championships are paid...lets say this Suleymanoglu was paid for world record and gold medal, from Turkey(country)about 5milion dolars or even more some said. And others are paid well,it is not necessary to be a champion...why?It is olympic sport, and if ever powerlifting came to olympics,it will be the same situation like in weightlifting(when we talk about sallary). Taranenkos squat of 837pounds with 2 second pause at botom, competly raw, donkey to grass and with body weight of 240pounds is amayzing, also his deadlift should be very good.Only question is about bench press. But at the new time weightlifers starts to do bench also, there were tapes on internet with some weightlifers who with bodyweight of 200pounds doing bench 400x8,just to complete his body, elimenating bad and weak links. Here is one lift, old weightlifting discipline,3rd.It is caled clean and press, without using legs, since 1980-is is out of weightlifting youtube.com/watch?v=7erVblY7aiU
