We've seen the mind of 3speed. Now, for a slightly different twist. When you're approaching the rack/platform/bench or whatever for a (hopefully) new PR, what is going through your mind? This is just out of curiosity, perhaps for some entertainment, and I'm not planning to change how I visualize PR nirvana based on the responses . Like most other thoughts in the iron world, I've seen everything from picture a white room and clear your mind to visualize every fiber in your body contributing to the lift. Ear-blasting music beforehand? Zen-like silence? Are you the 800-pound raging gorilla, or stick of TNT ready to fire? Cool cucumber or need your training partner to slap you into next week? Would like to see tons of posts on this from the big lifters and soon-to- be big lifters alike. Then, we have a glimpse into the minds of everyone and hopefully are not too disturbed

For me, there is no difference between the way I approach for a warmup or a PR. Every single rep is important. Every rep is the same for me. I've trained for the weight and I know that I can do it.

(soon-to-be big lifter) When I deadlift, I visualize my legs driving through the concrete. Every rep. When I bench, I visualize breaking the bar in half when I push and actually try to bend the bar. Every rep. Seems to make the weight lighter.

I'm similar to 3-speed. Very relaxed, usually jovial at meets. To me the meet is a release from the training Hades I put on myself, so in a way it's a vacation. It's along the lines of 'Make the practices so hard the games are easy".

I would have to say I am usually flowing with a mass amount of adrenaline and wound like a clock. With the squat and bench, I try to cage some of the rage as not to lose form and tightness. With the deadlift, I like a good smack across the top of the back and while my body and mind are racing like no other. I usually go somewhere that isn't good and pull with all I have.

Every lift, warmups and max efforts, I start the same. I have three scriptures I repeat to myself. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding." "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord." Every lift is a blessing, so I take time to acknowledge from whom the strength comes.
Now, on meet day, it's a different story. When 3Speed is there he's able to influence me into the "3Speed Zen Zone" with the whole "all the prep work is done, now just lift" mentality. It's amazing..... When 3Speed is NOT there, I fall somewhere between smoldering flame and raging inferno with the adrenaline pump.....

i do a lot of work with bands and reverse bands to get used to handling heavier weights so i set up like any other lift and then after i actually get the weight in my hands or on my back, that's when i start psyching myself up. it feels so much lighter than some of the training i've done, i make myself believe it's a light lift and then i do it. easy as that......in theory.

I put a Mercy Me cd on when I workout. Praise music with a strong beat. Fortunatly no one can hear me singing along in between sets.
I train to make every rep the same so when I got to the bar to lift I want to reach a point of serenity then let the body lift the weight.
