Some of you all know who I'm talking about, some of you will before you finish reading this post.
If you were at the meet in Richmond in July, I'd like you to think back about when the announcer mentioned a certain lifter who had beaten cancer not once, but twice. That in and of itself is inspirational.
This guy is a close, personal friend, and I have his permission to share his "the rest of the story" story. Well, he is one of the nicest, most humble guys you'll ever meet, and an humble servant of the Lord. He's always sure to give God the glory for everything, and lives every day in thanksgiving just for still being here, not to mention being able to lift.
Back in February 2006 he lifted at the meet in Raleigh. That is the last time he has been able to train for a meet. Since then he has still been on medications for cancer-related issues. So all the lifting he did in Richmond was with basically no meet prep.
That's not all.
He had confided in me that about 2 months before the meet (that'd be May 2007) the doctors told him his white blood cell count was up, and that he ought to come back in and get screened because he may no longer be in remission. In other words they were telling him his cancer may be back. Still he went to Richmond, competed, and ended up setting the records in his age group, never told another soul but Paul and me that I know of. No complaints, no excuses, just lift weights and lift up the Lord.
He emailed me the other day and told me he got the results back from the doctor and he IS STILL IN REMISSION! The cancer has NOT returned!!! All I can do is give thanks and praise the LORD for what HE has done!
I hope this inspires you all the way it has me!
God Bless!
