Scooby snacks....mmmmmmmm. I actually have a large scooby on each side of the sleeper on my truck.
Congrats on the 405!!!!! You know what this means right? Onward to 5 wheels. Sigh.....A lifter's work is never done.

Thanks guys! I do have a goal in mind, 3speed: I'd like to get at least 470 before the end of this year. Do you think that's too greedy, or unrealistic?
Last ME bench night before the meet:
warm-up: 135 x 8, 185 x 6, 225 x 5, 275 x 3, 315 x 1
305 x 3, 315 x 2, 325 x 1, 345 x 1 ;D not a PR, but ties my previous PR from last year, and it did feel heavy. Then 4 x 295, all paused.
Dumbbell bench: 2 x 8 x 110
Decline contraption: 180 x 8, 270 x 8, 360 x 5
Cable pushdowns: 8 x 200, 8 x 230, 8 x 250
triceps rope extensions, 3 x 10 x 150
seated drop dips (w/out stopping), weight on my lap
8x 135, 8 x 90, 8 x 45, 8 x bw

SWEET! Looks like you have a VERY reasonable shot at at least TYING your PR! And if it gets at least two white lights, it's official! Outstanding, Rock!
If you don't mind my two cents in the deadlift, 470 is on the upper end of reasonable. Given your history, and what you compete with, I'd say just keep working out and let the DL falls where it falls. You've already far exceeded doctor's expectations, and your progress is WAY inspirational! Don't risk the bench future for the sake of a DL record. Just my two cents.
God Bless!

Thank you for the pearls of wisdom, Doug. I will follow that advice!
I did do a mini-workout, last Friday morning, while away on vacation:
135 x 8, 185 x 6, 225 x 4, 275 x 3, & 315 x 1 with a 2 second pause
Dumbbell bench
1 set of 100 x 10
EZ bar curls
10 x 70, 10 x 90, 8 x 110
The place is called 24-hour fitness, and was an extremely nice gym. However, the "No Dropping the Weights" sign kept me from going any higher, or doing any more sets, with the dumbbells. I usually just let 'em go.
Good luck to everyone competing next weekend. I can't wait to meet you all. Travel safely!

(Dang, forgot we can't copy/paste any more)
Thanks for the good wishes, and I'm nearly as excited about meeting folks as I am about lifting! And right back at you too.
Not too shabby for a "quick workout"! I have felt those 100 pound dumbells NOT after benching 315, and that's pretty studly for a "quick workout"!
God Bless!

Rock, Too many warning signs: > 'fitness' in the gym name > 'extremely nice' > no dropping the weights I hope no spandex or designer water bottles made it within a 20 foot radius of you . Great work!

Big summed that up pretty well I especially got a kick out of the spandex and designer water bottles. Don't go and get "sexy" on us Rock!

Sorry Rockman. I have been so busy that I missed your question. However, Doug did a fine job of answering for me. I would say that 470 is definitely reachable by the end of the year if approached with caution. It would require not only just the right training mix but also a perfect diet and rest pattern. Deadlift is the one exercise that working it harder does not necessarily mean better results.......you have to work it smarter.
Keep up the hard work. Your turnaround has definitely been an inspiration to a lot of us here.

As you have probably read by now, the Nationals were fantastic! There was incredible lifting, incredible people, and a very good time was had.
Doug, I can't thank you enough. Without your generosity, I might have made that ride for nothing. (I grabbed my Inzer squat suit instead of my singlet, and Doug let me borrow his singlet to lift in.) I'm afraid I might have looked like Baby Huey if I had worn Paul's singlet. You're the best.
I met a number of great people there. In fact, everyone I met was friendly and helpful, and just generally nice folks.
I benched 325, missed 335 curled 130 and missed 140.
Is it possible to be grateful and still have a tinge of disappointment? As a very wise man said: I didn't push (or pull) hard enough!
Still, I am grateful to be able to compete again, and thank God for the opportunity.

Nice lifting Rocky. I've seen good progress lately with your bench and I think you have that 335 in you for sure. Keep plugging away. Would love to see you go fullpower. Either way yout lifting is inspirational. That singlet story is one to laugh about afterwards. I'm sure that was a moment of dread when you pulled out your squat suit. Doug saves the day. Beautiful thing.

Chancey, dread doesn't cover it, more like horror. I had never even tried on the squat suit before. It doesn't even fit me. My arms and shoulders are all bruised from trying so hard to get it on. I new it wasn't my singlet, but figured "maybe I can make this work???" ;D ;D I felt like SUCH an idiot. Doug could not have possibly been more of a gentleman. No questions asked, he offered immediately.

Evidently you rubbed some good vibes onto it, I ended up with my 2nd best total EVER!
Rocky, it was an honor and a privelege to meet you! I've said it before and I'll say it again, you RULE! I hope you don't mind but I emailed Bud a picture of you with your trophy.
God Bless!

Great lifting Rock!!!! Oh, what I would've paid to see your expression when you pulled out the "overly supportive" singlet

Rocky...sorry I didn't recognize who you were. I was a side judge for the Bench Nats. Nice numbers for a 181. Maybe we can introduce ourselves next time.
