Thanks Doug. I forget what a blessing good health and well-being are, until they are gone. I'm not sure that I'll ever get back to where I was, but if I don't, this is good enough to make me happy.

That a good workout rockman. The important thing is that you are lifting for yourself. So stay happy and healthy!

Now is this your speed day for the bench? 175 X 19 reps, that is awesome! Something that our weight lifting coach in High School used to have us do once a month was bench just the bar 100 reps. Try it sometimes, it is a good way to shock your body.

Not really a speed day for me, Don, I'm still trying to figure out what I can do without getting the darn headaches. I just started to think that it might be the stress on my cervical spine due to the way the weight is distributed in the arched position.
I haven't lifted anything heavy since December 27, so my strength has dropped a good 10%. I want to do a bench for reps competition on March 17th, so that's why I'm doing the higher rep stuff.
Last week I tried flat backed singles up to 300, this week I did them with for 2 x 6 x 250 just to see what I can get away with. Is it the weight, or my form? that's what I want to know.
I ended up in the hospital on December 29th with the worst headache I can imagine. Two days earlier I was doing bench rack lockouts. I was doing them flat backed, and couldn't get over 455. So I got in as much of an arch as I could do, and was able to get 2 sets of 495 for 3, with a 3 second hold at the top. I'm thinking that the pressure on my cervical spine is what caused the problem.

Well I hope and pray that the headaches get better. Has the doctors given you a clear reason why this is happening?

Doctors haven't been much help. The Physical Therapist is saying compressed cervical spine, so I'm trying figure out what is causing it. I get an idea, run it by him, then try it if he agrees.
Went in for a quick workout tonight.
Flat back bench 135 x 8, 185 x 6, 175 x 22
Leg Press = weights on carriage
10 x 200, 10 x 400, 8 x 490, 7 x 580
Decline crunches 3 x 15
Side Bends 3 x 15 x 45 pounds
No headaches in about two weeks. Cool!

175x22... looking good! I certainly hope that you arrive at the meet in top condition and well rested. Try to drink a lot of water and avoid salty food, too... you don't want any excess bloating when you weigh-in (considering that it's a bodyweight for reps contest). Are there Master's divisions in this repetition contest or is it just Open?

How are you liking benching with a flat back, and does it seem to help?
285 after a 21 rep set and a 14 rep set? Good GRIEF!
:')

Doug, since I started lifting flat back, and with the PT, I haven't had any headaches. Granted, I've been lifting much lighter too. Because I haven't done much lifting since the end of December, my strength has dropped at least 10%.
I'm definitely weaker flat backed, but I knew that before. I don't mind if I'm weaker, as long as I can keep lifting. I think it keeps me younger!!! LOL ;D

Just to keep things in perspective, there are plenty of us out there who would kill to match your "weaker" lifts

Doug, since I started lifting flat back, and with the PT, I haven't had any headaches. Praise the Lord! Man, that is GREAT news, thanks for sharing! And if I knew how to quote two posts at once, I'd quote BigLifter right here, and right under that, I'd reply: Amen to that! Thanks again for sharing! God BLess.

LOL!!! I like that, Doug. Those would be Chuck Norris push-ups, he doesn't push himself up, he pushes the world down.

BWAHAHAHA ;D , reminds me of the List: 1. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits. 2. Chuck Norris counted to infinity—twice. 3. The chief export of Chuck Norris is Pain. 4. Chuck Norris doesn’t read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants. 5. When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. 6. Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make it drink. 7. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down. 8. Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door. 9. Chuck Norris is his own line at the DMV. 10. When Chuck Norris does division, there are no remainders. 11. Chuck Norris can blow bubbles with beef jerky. 12. Chuck Norris can get Blackjack with just one card. 13. Chuck Norris puts the laughter in manslaughter. 14. Chuck Norris makes onions cry!

Those CN quotes are very funny.
Rockman, glad to hear those headaches have subsided. I like your persistence in finding a way through this.
