I wish I could be there to see it, but I can't swing the time!

Thank you for the kind words. Depth is my biggest issue - when I tire I can bend forward, still go what seems to be deep, and pull off some fantastic good mornings. I may open with 350 to ensure I stay in the game. I really wish I had someone with some experience to help me. Unfortunately at my gym you never see anyone squatting and no one powerlifts. It was a mistake squatting so soon after my last heavy dead session. Every step I take today is a reminder.

11-28-2006 Bench
Rotator Cuff Prehab
Flat Bench (Pauses on all after 275)
8 x 135 8 x 135 5 x 225 3 x 275 2 x 325 2 x 380 (Assist on 2nd (close)) 1 x 365 1 x 365 2 x 315 1 x 365
Flat Bench Drop set (Strip & Go)
5 x 315 (Pauses) 10 x 225 15 x 135 5 x 135 (Pauses)
Legs sore so no leg drive, lower back fried so setting up felt odd. These workout hardly ever go as planned. I was going for 2s today and in the end I went with ones trying to concentrate on staying tight and blasting off the chest. Trying to play mind games by dropping down and going back up hoping to get the speed feel. I am going to lift once more before the meet on Saturday. It will be a low volume short combo day of Bench and Squat. I feel I need it. The best thing about this workout – NO PAIN! The worst thing – sweating on 135 to finish.

Unfry the back! If you're that beat up right now, I don't know if I'd push one more workout, other than working up to openers maybe Monday.
The bench looks AWESOMELY AWESOME!
Go hit you five reps on the Icy Hot and have some leftover turkey and taters!
God Bless.

Nice workup! Pauses no less! Drop sets rock...those last 135's are the money reps. I think you answered your own question...lay up until meet day, *maybe* take some *LIGHT* active rest between now and meet day, but that's it, your done...nothing but to do it on the Platform!

You've done the work.
Take the time off to rest and let your body recover and heal up.
Hit the platform and Git-er-done.

I know you all will be disappointed with my decision but I feel it is the best thing for me at this time. I have decided to Bench & Deadlift only at the worlds. I am just not comfortable enough with my squat at this time. I thought I had depth nailed but it’s too borderline. I will benefit greatly by watching others and I can tell you for certain that from here forward I’ll be going rock bottom on depth. It’s amazing what a couple of inches can mean and I don’t want to ruin what should be a great time for me. This will still be a good learning experience for me and allow me to come back next year knowing what to expect. Please don’t be too harsh on me and I hope you big 3 lift guys will still give me the time of day.

No, sir! I would have enjoyed seeing you nail that squat, but I will be MORE satisfied seeing you have a great first meet experience. Getting the first one out of the way is far more important than blowing your gameplan due to not being prepared mentally. I won't holler any less loudly, and I won't be any less excited for you, once you get those killer benches and deadlifts all white lights!
I can't wait!
God Bless.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Get that first meet out of the way. It will definitely be a learning experience.
I would have been disappointed if you even considered dropping he deads.

No way 3speed! That was a tough enough decision on my part. Strangely I find benching my least favorite lifts these days.
I now feel like I have something to prove to myself so I will seperate myself from my ego and strip the weight and get the form down to second nature. Hopefully, I'll be ready to make another run by early summer.

I think I understand how you feel, however, I don't squat as much as you do. I'd be doing cartwheels if I could squat 350 pounds. I'm embarrassed by the amount that I can squat, (I'll definitely be in the first flight) but I hope that no-one thinks too much less of me because of it. I just hope there aren't any tiny high school girls competing that squat or deadlift more than me, , but there may be Best of luck to you. I can't wait to meet you, and watch you lift.

Just make sure you are lifting against yourself first and foremost. That's what really kept me grounded for my first full PL meet and one thing I actually knew before hearing it from everyone on the forum here . My attitude was if I post a 700 for all three, so what? Next time, plot a course that gets you to 800 and walk away with a ton of experience, if not points. If you personally don't feel comfortable with form at a reasonable weight, that's cool. I just really hope you're not worried about what others will think, though. I've been to my share of meets before competing and have never seen anything but support on attempts from 50 to 850 lbs. Ok, I have seen a few lifters get some laughter. However, they were all under 7 years old and it was mostly because right after all the applause for the lift, they ran right back to their portable playstation. Deadlifts can be such a distraction ;D. Just impress yourself and it won't even cross your mind what others think. Best of luck!!!!!!!

Thank you. This will be a first meet as either a participant or spectator so I win either way. I will know what’s expected of me and will be rid of the first meet jitters.
I wish the best of luck to everyone. I hope everyone gets a PR for Xmas!

Ok here how the worlds went for my Bench & Deadlift. I opened up on my bench at 369.2 pounds and got that relatively easy. My second attempt I went for 385.7 pounds. The pause at the bottom seemed like eternity (probably always does when its heavy) and got off my chest about 2 boards worth and stalled. My 3rd attempt I focused on my form more because I thought it was lacking on attempt 2 and almost got it but I started struggling too much and the bar was going up uneven. There was some confusion on my lifting because they had me in the bench only flight at first and I warmed up to bench then next thing I know my name was off and was on with the full power guys flight because I was doing Deadlift also. So I warmed up twice to bench. No big deal and not to be taken as an excuse. I know I am a better bencher than what I got but all things considered with the injuries I went through during training I was happy. I just never really had time to adequately train my bench back up. Deadlift on the other hand went exceptionally well. I opened with 473.7 pounds – no problem but I almost blew it letting it down before the signal. Second attempt I went for 501.5, a weight I have never touched in my life, and got it with relative ease. For the third attempt I really wanted to walk out of here exceeding my goal of 500. Feeling strong I went for 529 pounds and surprisingly I ended up nailing that fairly easy. I don’t know what I could have done but I had at least another 20 pounds in me. I saw some unbelievable leave it all on the platform pulls, and I was not even close to that. Take away my last heavy DL session and I had never lifted more than 465 and that day I went up to 485 - boggles my mind. I’m happy and can’t wait to set my goals on 600lbs!
In general without giving out too much information, respect to fellow lifters ya know, the day was pretty good. The 181 class was stacked with, I think, 11 quality lifters and Paul said it was one of the most competitive he's ever seen. And for that matter there were quality lifters all around. A lot of world records dropped. There was a 129 pounder who pulled a little over 400 and an eleven year old kid (I think 11)who stole the show. The older guys did really well setting the bar higher. It was cool to see some 700lb + pulls and some guy squatting 826 pounds. Yee haw!
Lastly, I would like to thank Bret for bringing PL to this area and putting on a quality show.
This officially ends this workout log. Like Arnie said “I’ll be back”.

Yall, Chancey is being modest. I won't.
Chancey laid the smackdown on his bench opener. He did it so fast I thought he hit a brick wall in the middle of his stroke. The opener took like 1/2 a second. There's no doubt in my mind he will hit 400 in his next meet. And as his training partner (I'll just refer to him as "Kane" if you catch my drift) said, 500 is a reasonable goal. I second that!!!!!
On to the deadlift. 600? Stay healthy brother, you have until December '07, but I'm not going to cut you any slack between now and then! Yall, Chancey just reached down and picked up 530 pounds. Just like that. Like I pick up a bag of chicken wings. Even Chancey looked shocked that it went up that good! :')
Chancey, I truly TRULY hope I get a chance to see you lift again after you have 2-3 full power meets under your belt, and about a year or so of healthy injury-free training. You have so much potential it is not even funny! Thank the Good Lord you are a nice guy!
God Bless!
