[quote author=animal board=logs thread=1153447749 Raw Bench Press Worked up to 275 lbs. x 5 reps (warm ups) Added Chains here... 275 lbs. x 5 reps 295 lbs. x 3 reps 310 lbs. x 2 reps x 2 sets 320 lbs. x 1 rep Added 2 board w/ chains 335 lbs. x 2 reps 345 lbs. x 1 rep No Boards or Chains 305 lbs. x 1 rep w/ long pause This was very easy! I dropped the weight down to 270 lbs. x 6 reps w/ chains
High Face Pulls - Rope 80 lbs. x 15 reps x 3 sets
That's it....Felt real strong today and after my chain routine I dropped down to 305 with a long pause and smoked it (very fast, very easy). I feel the chains has really helped my raw bench. I got one more heavy bench day then I'm going to deload for my meet.
Tomorrow...I'll be another year older (56). Just seems like yesterday when I was celebrating my 50th. How time flys when your having fun. [/quote]
DDDaaaaannnnngggg!! 56 and still movin that much iron. You are an inspiration to this 37 year old.

Good luck in your meet, and very good pressing.
Animal could you give me the spec on how to make your chains you use I would like to start useing chains.
What i mean is like how long are the chains that hang down from the loop and how much chain did you use for the loop. Thanks

What i mean is like how long are the chains that hang down from the loop and how much chain did you use for the loop. Thanks Scorpion, I bought my set of chains from elitness they came with..... 2, 5 foot chains, 5/8" w /link 2, 3 foot chians 1/4" w/ link One set of chains weighs about 40 lbs. but keep in mine 1/2 of it is on the floor so actually your only locking out 20 lbs. When you loop the smaller chain over the bar it hands down. At that point you attach it to the 5/8 chain. You'll have to adjust the loop so all the heavier chain is on the floor when the bar is sitting on your chest. Half the chain remains on the floor at lockout. Check out the pictures below and you'll see how all the chain is on the floor at chest level in photo #1 and 1/2 the chain is on the floor at lockout in photo #2. I just bought another set of chains today so now my set is complete, at least for now. I tried to make a set my self but no one my area sold 5/8 chain. The biggest I could find was 1/2" and that just isn't enough weight. It would of cost about the same as the 5/8 chain set...that I have now. #1 Photo i96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/theanimal_2006/290lbs.jpg#2 Photo i96.photobucket.com/albums/l190/theanimal_2006/385lbs.jpg

Wow! I missed the post on the chains info. Awesome! Thanks for all the great information. I think for me, and the one other guy at the gym that does full power, we've both decided chains would work better than bands, so that info is perfect! MUCH appreciated.
Kick some backside at the meet Animal!
God Bless. Doug

(Sheepishly...) I wouldn't know. My gym is a (gasp) "fitness center". No bands, no power bars, one squat rack.....
:')
I am motivated about the chains, though. I'm confident the manager could find a place to keep them.

Doug Once I got the manager to agree to let me use chains I asked him if I could lock them up in one of the lockers in mens room and he said ok. I didn't want to leave them out where someone would walk off with them.

Looks like a new raw meet PR coming up to me. Hopefully your body will respond favorably to the rest thisweek and you will annihilate that old PR.
GOOD LUCK ANIMAL.

On Saturday 9-9-06, I competed in the 15th WNPF Lifetime Drugfree Nationals. This was the last chance to qualify for the world championships next month so I had to at least hit one attempt. I competed in the masters division 55-59 raw in the 220 weight class in the bench only. I weighed in at 213, which is the lightest I have competed since 1996. This is only my second time ever competing in a raw meet. I decide to open with 305 and I smoked it. On my second attempt I decided to go for 325 which would of been a 5 pound meet PR. I made it with no problem. Come to find out this was a new NJ state record in the masters division 55-59. Since the worlds is only 7 weeks away I did not take my 3rd. attempt....there was just no need too.
I really had an awesome time competing raw and seeing all my WNPF buddies. Now it's time to get serious again and get ready for the world championships. ;D
