Hey guys, just looking for a pulling harness and was wondering what ones work. Money is somewhat an issue would like to start with light cars and work up as long as they can handle the loads.

I may go and get one of the climbing type harness not the cheap ones but any idea on how to set the rope for pulling cars like in the event? We have a long 72 foot of thick rope to use as needed.

LMAO – Something HEAVY!
Sorry – couldn’t help myself. You just have to get creative there another vehicle comes to mind. We’ve never used a rope that way to pull a truck where I train. We do the hand over hand pull. The rope is attached to the truck and we use the yoke loaded down with weights and a 4x4 to brace our feet on.
Other thing that come to mind though are hydrants, guard rail posts, anything that is anchored deep to the ground.

Seems like a fall protection harness with a D ring on the back might work well. Was thinking of trying to pull our #1 fire engine for charity with one. Need to see if I can even budge it first, and see if I can get donations per every foot that I pull it.

Definitely test it out first. The last thing you would want is for the stitching to give out in you in the middle of a pull.

First off, shoes are key, you really need something that will allow you to dig in and not slip. They also have to be flexible because you will be walking on your toes. Rock climbing shoes work well Get low and stay low from the get go. You can’t pull something that big upright. You mentioned using a safety harness to strap up to the truck. I really would test this first. I don’t know enough about them to make an intelligent guess as to how well they would work. The harnesses designed to pull trucks and made so they will focus the weight to the shoulder weather your body is upright or horizontal to the ground.
The hardest part is getting the vehicle going. Short choppy steps, it a game of an inch at a time.
This is just my opinion but I believe the truck pull is by far the most intense of all the strongman events. It is one of the few events that once you start you have to keep going full bore until the end. If you let up the vehicle will stop and I’ve almost never see a person get it going again. LoL – and it is cardio, you have basically run a marathon in the 30 to 60 seconds it took to get the truck from point A to point B.
I’ve never pulled anything a big as a fire. But I would suggest trying it with something a little smaller first just to get the feel for it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch dbunch! Our harnesses are pretty strong...haven't seen any stronger. haven't thought about the shoes, but I have some pretty awesome red wing boots that might do the trick.
