Hi everyone - I am a new (old) broad. Have been lifting since September and have trouble staying motivated. I love lifting but find myself needing more encouragement and new ideas. Anyone else have these issues? Also, when do you eat so that you don't get hungry while lifting, but are not too full?

Welcome to Raw. I am an old guy I train 3 days a week squat on monday deadlift thursday and bench on Sunday I do assistance for each on that training day. I generally eat 6 times a day and I have weighed 180lbs for 2 years. No soda, almost no sweets and I try to limit excessive animal fat and vegtable oil. I love powerlifting and the lifestyle. good luck with your training.

I too am "old" and started lifting in Sept and live in Mpls. I keep motivated by reading about MN and Nat'l lifters in my age group and aim to get close to their lifts Helps keep me motivated. I work with a personal trainer which really helps push me. I'm retired so try to eat whole wheat bread with peanut butter or similar carbs an hour before and right after lifting, either a protein shake and/or protein meal of lean meat with veggies. No soda for a year, no fried food, egg white fritatta with lots of veggies for most breakfasts, eat 5-6 times a day, lots of water. Attended the MN meet at Elk River a couple weeks ago and talked to one of the women lifting. Really watching form and had lots of questions. Keeping "GOALS" in mind --where I want to be in 6 months/l year--really keeps me focused. Keep it up. Maybe will meet some day.

Hi there! I am 48 and have been lifting several years. Being strong is fun (and convenient) but it is stilll hard to stay motivated sometimes. Having good lifting buddies helps alot and so does entering contests. It gives you something to work toward. The closer the meet gets the more motivated you'll feel. And don't be bashful, it's more about competing with yourself than anyone else, and every one is very supportive. I live in New York and hope to go the Northeast Regionals in Johnson City at the end of May. As for eating, I'm not so good with my diet but I find that a meal about 3hours before workouts is pretty good. Sometimes I will have a small nibble right before if I am really hungry, but nothing heavy. Anyways lots of luck!
