VERY happy...ME THINKS a 405 competetion style 1RM is VERY VERY close... (going for a MN record WABDL 412.5...but I plan on breaking it raw even though bench shirts are allowed in WABDL)

Thanks man you definitely make this place motivational!
The WABDL Midwest Regionals are on Sat. May 26th 07' in Minneapolis. I will be on a much needed vacation from March 19-23 in the beautiful Maya Riviera and then back with a vengeance to peak for the show from 3/26/2007 to 5/26/2007. I'm hoping for some training advice when I get to 8 weeks out so I can peak properly...No better place than here to find it.
On a side note I was planning on wearing the "this is my bench press shirt" under my singlet. Who votes this a cool idea? I'd hope it wouldn't come off as self-righteous to the "equipped" athletes... Just fun!

Go for it, just wear a smiley face button or something just so folks realize you are NOT trying to come off self-righteous.
8 weeks, I figure that's just about PERFECT to tune up for a meet. You're already stronger than....a....well......darn, ran out of funny stuff to compare you too.......well daggonit you are already strong! That last 8 weeks really won't make you infinitely stronger, just cement in your brain 1) your confidence and 2) your opener and attempts.
May 26. I'll pencil it in on the calendar and look for some great post here on the 27th. In the meantime, train smart, eat smart, and get plenty of rest.
God Bless!!

I'm a pretty light-hearted guy so I'm sure people wouldn't take it very serriously. Right now I'm not so light hearted becasue of this diet though..(ornary) I'm sticking to it 110% for about the next 6 or 7 weeks with a couple of cheat days thrown in for good measure. I'm already down to 270ish, I've managed to maintain and even add a little strength on about 125-175 carbs a day, and I feel MUCH healthier...That's most important.

AMEN to that! What good is it to lift a ton if you feel like poop?
If you are cutting weight AND adding strength, just keep doing what you are doing. Once the carb cravings go away and you get used to living with out 'em, you will be a ripped-up incredibly strong 275 who weighs in around 255, kind of like Hammer3000. (Long story...)
Just keep us posted, I really get a kick out of the huge numbers you guys lift even if it is EXTREMELY humbling!
God Bless!

Thanks Guys, hope you had a great weekend. My Wifey finally comes back from a sales convention today, I have to pick her up from the airport in about an hour. I'm so excited to see her, I'm just a big baby what can I say?...(Maybe its alslo because she actually likes to listen to me rant exitedly about my training sessions)
Thanks Cal!
PL'ng Comp is 5/26/07
Strongman Comp(S) are 6/6/07 and 6/26/07 Not sure if I'll do both, both can qualify for national level. Then again I'm sure the first one will get some "bugs" out and I might fare better the second time.
TRAINING SESSION
1/27/2007-Sat-3B-Hams, Calves, Quads
Good Mornings (I've decided to stop a little short of failure on these each week and just keep adding weight until I can't anymore. I just feel like I aggravate an old "tweak" if I push these to true failure)
POWER SET - 1X3-5 - 315X6 EZ SET 2 - 1X7-9 - 275X9 EZ
Weighted Donkey Calf Raises
STRAIGHT SET- 1X12(Holds) - Bwt+25X12
Hack/V-Squat
POWER SET - 1X3-5 - 450X5 WIDOWMAKER SET - 1X20 - 270X26

There is nothing wrong with being excited to see you wife! That's actually pretty cool!
I've never competed strongman, so take this completely as a "for what it's worth" thing. The idea of working the bugs out on the 6th and fine-tuning for the 26th might be the game plan. I know the events may change, but having that tune-up meet might identify some points for correction, even if you have a very limited time frame to make the changes. Just my $.02.
No matter what you decide, you can believe we're pulling for you!
God Bless.

That's awesome man, I'm starting to see it that way too. The cool thing is that the one on the 6th is is over 90% are 1st timers who are typical gym rats trying to impress their buddies... I was a spectator last year and there was only two guys stronger than me on the 2 measurable/conventional events (Deadlift and clean and press) By the time the comp rolls around I should be able to get 1st or 2nd (hopefully!) in those two events. Its all of the other ones I'm worried about fine tuning.
The comp on the 26th is a more serious one at a strongman facility that some diesel dudes come out for from across the midwest.

Cool! Well, let me just reiterate, that was only my $.02, but it sure sounds like a great opportunity.
I'll keep an eye on your log and see what you decide.
God Bless.

1/30/2007-1A-Chest and Back
Incline Barbell Press POWER SET - 1X3-5 - 305X2 (same as last week, I've been stuck..) RP SET - 1X11-15RP - 255X12RP (one more rep, at least something)
Wide-Grip Chins RP SET - 1X11-15RP - BwtX11RP
Deadlifts Bunch of Singles 315X1 365X1 405X1 455X1 495X1 545X1 605X0 (thought I was ready, I stalled out below the knee) 585X0 (I couldn't BELIEVE I didn't hit this, it was all psychological tonight..stalled out right at the knee)
I was not mentally prepared for the gym tonight, I felt like I should have pushed it a day and I didn't listen to my instincts. This was the lamest, no intesity workout I can remember having for a long time. Let's just say I was overdue and its not going to happen again for a LONG LONG time. It was a bad idea to do the heavy singles, I'm going to stick with my triples and just try to keep adding weight each week. I WILL MAKE UP FOR THIS SESSION NEXT TIME...MARK MY WORDS..

I'm with Chancey 100%. My gut reaction to the pounds and reps was " ". (I was speechless.) Until you said "bummer" about your workout, I had no clue that was a BAD day!
Sticking with your triples on the deadlift? Just wondering.
Here's an idea. I don't know how long you usually wait between such workouts, but wait an extra day or two, for the next two or three workouts. Extend your recovery time just a little. Just a thought.
You're still a beast!
God Bless.
