I went for a single at 335 off the two board this morning and missed it badly. I guess my triceps still aren't up to snuff... I have been working them really hard though. I haven't yet started my training cycle for the June 17th competition. I'll begin that seven weeks out from the meet. Anyone who is interested in my bench training can PM me for details.

Started that bench training cycle... doing well. Damned scheduling though... I'm doing a full USAPL meet instead of the 100% Raw bench-only. My squat and deadlift are finally moving up after a frustrating 3-4 months dealing with an injury to my lower lumbar region. I've blown up to 212 pounds... so a solid 220 now. I squatted an easy 380 and pulled a rather tough 450 this weekend. I think switching from conventional to sumo has helped with my hip strength which in turn has helped my squat. The competition is the NY state USAPL meet. I'm thinking of the following attempts:
SQ: 1. 365 2. 385 3. 405 BP: 1. 285 2. 315 3. 330 DL: 1. 425 2. 455 3. 475
The 1st attempts are all weights I can rep out, the 2nd attempts would each be a 5 pound PR and the 3rd are going for broke to explain my way of thinking. I'm disappointed that I have to forego the 100% Raw meet. Looks like I won't get anymore use out of my card this year...

Never say never on the 100% RAW meets. Keep an eye on the event schedule, you never know what may pop up.
You're looking at a serious shot at a 1200+ total, bro. That is a heckuva total, ESPECIALLY considering the low back problems! Do keep us posted on how the training is going, and how the back holds up.

Would you believe that the USAPL meet is bench-only? I'll be doing an ADAU meet instead in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania... I guess the ADAU is sort of a brother federation to 100% Raw, seeing as how they adhere to the same principles of no supportive gear and drug testing. I got my donkey kicked by 405 in the squat yesterday... not ready for that weight yet. I'd say I'm probably good for 390 or so. Benching is going very well, I'm thinking 320 or better. The deadlift is an on-again off-again thing with me... If I'm on a 470 is definitely possible though. I still have a month's solid training to go... so who knows what will happen in Catty...

Yeah, I like the ADAU as well. I've emailed him before and he's a straight-up guy. Very decent organization, in my estimation, having never competed with them before.
I have the fortune of occaisonally lifting with a legendary NC lifter at my gym. We were talking philosophy one day and he said he had read an article. The article said if you go heavy (90+ %) three weeks, your fourth week will be an off week. I looked back at my log, and there was some evidence that what he said had merit to it. It's a little late in the cycle to change anything, but prepping for your next meet, keep that in mind.
Meanwhile, the Fed is getting some serious representation up your way, with some meets possibly coming down the pipe (in addition to the Dec 9 meet in VT).
Keep us posted on your progress, and definitely on your results!
GOd Bless. Doug
