Howdy, all. I'm Doug Parrish. I've been lifting with 100% Raw since July 2003. Before that I hadn't lifted competitively since 1987. Since I came to Raw, the fire has been rekindled. I have a 5 year old son, so I try to keep my meets to about 3 per year. But now I have a purpose when I go to the gym!
I don't think anyone will ever mistake me for an elite lifter, but I'll go ahead and share with you all what kind of numbers I put up. My last meet I lifted in the 181s. I got a 450 squat, 300 bench, and 500 deadlift, for a 1250 total. My personal bests are 465, 325, and 525, but they don't count until I do it for a judge. My goal is to someday lift against Wade Hooper so I can get my hindparts handed to me by the guy I consider the best drug-free lifter in the world (just not Raw).
I'm a college Industrial Technology instructor (I teach about 15 different classes in a year's time). I also enjoy hunting, fishing, playing guitar, and most importantly, my family.
I'm a devout Christian, but I'm not going to preach to yall. There's another forum for that. But if you're ever at a meet with me and want to fellowship in the Lord, come on up and introduce yourself.
God Bless. Doug P.

Hello Doug,
Saw you lift at the Sanford meet in June. I have at least one of your squats on video...good stuff.
I just started powerlifting after lifting 'casually' (on and off) since being a teen. Am 38 now. Looking forward to getting a little stronger to get into some of that submaster action. There arent a whole lot of submasters out there or are there? (you'll be master next year?)
I am from Danville, Va. I Am probably going to join 100% raw Fed since they have the most meets around Va/NC.
Are you going to stay at 181? I am around 216 but with high bodyfat...seems 198 would be the better class for me
your numbers are good goals for me to shoot for...right now I would be a little over 1000ish total (365, 290, 405)...but of course I dont plan to let much moss grow on those numbers, lol.
I am a Christian also.
When is your next meet?
I was thinking of doing the Sept 10th bench meet in Stanardsville as my first meet...but who knows. I figure a bench only would be a good way to get my feet wet without jumping into one of those all day things right away, hehe.
Anyway, I look forward to sharing the platform soon hopefully, Randy W

Hey Doug I finally got on the board good to see you hitting great number. It is great to see lifters willing to share thier faith in Christ!
I hope all is well with everyone in 100% RAW lifting. I hope to hit one of the Oct 8 or 22 BP meets and then three lift Worlds after that if I can stay healthy. It has been 13 years since a three lift meet.
The Virginia State Bench Press is Sept 10, 2005 if you have trouble getting a form off of site send me a email valifting@aol.com.
Best of luck to Bud getting things going in Illinois.
Take care and God bless...

Hey, Randy. Thanks for dropping a line! Big Shane will tell you, I don't meet many strangers! I won't be a master for another couple of years. I try not to think about it.... :') But yes, I plan on sticking around 181. That meet in Sanford had the biggest 181 group I've lifted with, and it was a blast! I probably won't lift again until December, but if you want to go to a well-run meet with Christian guys there, you can't go wrong up at Stanardsville. John (the guy who posted right after you) is also a Christian, and a super nice guy. Plus he runs a good meet. Your numbers are definitely respectable, especially considering you just into the sport seriously. A 38 year old guy squatting 365 after just starting training? Awesome in my book!
I look forward to meeting you!
Hey, John! How's it going? I'm tickled to see you're going full power. You ought to be on track to break some VA records in something other than the bench! :')
Unfortunately, I don't do bench-only meets. I've officiated a couple, but I'm not good enough at any single lift to do a one-lift meet. So looks like we won't bump into each other until we hit a full-power or combo. Hope you smash some records in October.
God Bless yall. Doug

when/where is your next meet Doug?
I definitely plan to move down to 198's...and then there is the possibility of coming down to 181 but that would take a lot of dedication in the eating department, lol....with my current lean mass I would be somewhere around 10% bodyfat at 181
so at the moment, even though I weigh 218ish I am really just a chubby 181 lb'er, lol

Hey, Randy. The next meet will be the Raw worlds, if I don't have any family conflicts. You know the deal: month of December = family get-togethers. :') The date and location hasn't been posted yet, but as long as I don't have a conflict, I'll be there.
I know all about self-discipline. Last year our Worlds were in January, and on the 1st I weighed 193. Ouch! My lean mass has me at 170 at 10% body fat, but I refuse to be THAT disciplined! :') Gotta enjoy those cheat meals on Friday. (Hmmmm....165 pound class at 8%.... bet my wife would like that!) :')
Tell you a little about my philosophy, though. When I coached wrestling, I never required a wrestler to cut weight, only to stay in the same weight class all season. It helped them keep from losing strength due to cutting weight. Now, I've had several conversations with lifters who lose weight moderately, then dehydrate out for a few days prior to weigh-ins, then after weighing go and binge at the buffet. Not saying I recommend that, but I've seen it work for SOME lifters. Maybe if you want to cut weight for health aspects, it's a good thing. But just to make a weight class, make sure you start really early on so you don't lose strength as the competition gets close.
Keep me posted!
God Bless, Doug P.

Hey, Drew! Well I'm glad to see you finally got to the forum! :')
Thanks for the compliments. Everything I am I owe to the Lord. I've been richly blessed. You didn't do too badly yourself! You might have missed a lift or two, but dude, look at your pound-for-pound!
Next meet will probably be the full power nationals. Orlando sounds really good to a guy who has a son that will be 6 by then. :') How about yourself? The states?
Catcha later, and God Bless. Doug

Awesome, Drew! Congratulations on going out of the teen division with a bang! Your deadlift has really jumped up there! Which weight class did you lift in?
My son just started soccer, so my Saturdays are taken through May. I'm definitely planning on hitting the meet in Orlando this August, though. That'll probably be my next meet.
Congratulations again! Hey, we're going to have to get Chris Wichtl and Coach K and make us up like a "Team Carteret" or something! :')
God Bless. Doug

Hey, Drew. I won't be able to make the June 3 meet unless I get seriously in the doghouse soon! THat's the wedding anniversary, and would probably be really bad planning to go to a meet on that day. :')
I'm looking for you to knock the top off your PR's at Currituck. I'll keep an eye out for the results, and an eye on that ranking page!
Do good, and God Bless. Doug

Awesome squatting Drew! The way I see it, next up the ladder is David Wilson, I don't remember many other 148s hitting 350-360+ squats!
David Wilson is pretty elite company, bro.

i am thinking about going up at weight class to be in the 165 weight class i dont want to loose weight and i check my body fat ratio and when i go down to 148 i am looseing muscle mass so i am thinking about staying where i am at 155 i feel stronger so i am going to see at this competion if my lifts go up or not and if they dont then i'll go down to 148 for nationals

Whether you're at 165 or 148 you're putting up some impressive numbers. Just keep up the awesome work! We're going to Florida as a family trip, with a meet in the middle. Hate to tell you, but we won't have any room in the vehicle. I'll put up a message on the general board to see if anyone is passing that way and could give you a lift.
God Bless. Doug
