I found out this morning that my friend and one of my training partners Bryan Benzel will be competing in the Worlds Strongest Man for the second year in a row.

Awesome. I know he played FB at Nebraska, but curious if he's strongman only or if he's got any PL background?

I think he may have done one or two meets in the past but his main focus is strongman. In his off season he does sometimes compete in the highland games.

Update: As of Sunday, with 3 events in the books Bryan is in first place by half a point. He took 4th in the carry / drag medley, Tied for first on the squats, and crushed the fickle fingers being the only person in his group to get all 5 fingers. Of the 3 remaining events 2 play to his strong suite. The axle press and the stones for reps. the third the elephant carry (Hasfield stone)SP is not one oh his best events but he can hold his own.
It funny, I've trained with Bryan on Sundays for years. To us he is just Bryan, One of the guys I lift with and share fart jokes with. You know he is strong, But when you watch him do amazing thing every week you just sort of get use to it and you forget how amazingly strong he is. That is until you see he no only competing at, but leading in the WSM.

Sorry, I completely forgot to update the thread. Bryan was leading going into the day 4 and looked like he had a very good chance of getting into the finals. Sadly he tore his bicep on the car deadlift and had to drop out. I expect he will be back again next year. He is young and crazy strong.
