Hi! I just turned 40 and took up Power-lifting almost 3 months ago.I had years of on again off again bodybuilding experience and I cannot believe in that time I purposely avoided deads and squats ..Hades I even avoided benches and such to incline dumbell presses and cables and such. To tell the truth I was scared of doing these lifts and machines just seemed friendlier. I got into some trouble with the Law and was sent to jail and they had a full gym there with mainly free weights and a squat rack.I made some friends there and one in particular raved about Power-lifting.I was able to purchase a proper Belt in there which cost me countless cans of soft drink and tobacco! I Love doing the big 3 lifts and have learned to work some acccessory exercises in when I feel like them.Mainly I concentrate on the 3 lifts. When I started my results looked like this...Squat=130lbs Bench=130lbs Deadlift=200lbs. 2 and a half mnths later it looks like this.....Squat=350lbs Bench=220lbs(Im lagging on this one)Deadlift=400lbs. Im enjoying the great gains now being a newbie..I am just starting to plateau abit now. Im out of jail now and joining up a Local gym Tomorrow so I can continue in this much loved sport. I guess I can say Im happy that some good came out of my misfortune and my headspace is way better for it! Im currently 40 years old..5 feet 10 inches and around 240 lbs. Thanks for having me! Cheers!

sounds like you are making gains. good for you!. i just started back up again after years of time away from the Gym. starting out with 5x5 for overall strength. lucky for me the big 3 are the core of the program.
turning 45 recently snapped my eyes open to ...now is when i am going to decide what kind of older person i want to be. and i want to end my days as strong as i can.
