Greetings,
I just started PL about two years ago, after years of "fitness", and 3 x 10 work outs, etc. I started around Oct. of 2011, and I just turned 43 last week. I'm 5'9, and was consistently "fit" at about 170-175lbs. I am now 200 lbs (and have gotten thicker as far as muscle AND fat), from lifting and eating more. I typically do doubles, triples, singles...sometimes 5 x 5 or 4 x 5, focusing primarily on Squat, Bench, Deads. I typically throw in Dips or Overhead Press for bench sometimes.
My workouts have been splits (big 3 spaced out over a week) or, to what I am doing now again: Squats/Bench, rest 2-3 days, Deads/Bench etc.
I started working my squats and deads from about 155 for reps back in 2011, to now hitting 375 for Deads, and 340 for Squats (and 365 trap bar deads), my bench is the slowest, due to a lack of natural strength and reliable spotter for BB (so often use heavy DB). I am at about 240 max. So my total is around 950 or so. My goal is 405 deads and squats, 250 bench by my 45th birthday. I've been slow and deliberate, one plate at a time, 5 x 5, to triples at a higher weight, to "singles day", continuously moving up in weight. I remember the day I hit 225 (deads) for ten, and just the other day I hit 315 for ten on deads.
I really enjoy PL and being "strong" (well, relatively...for me at least), versus running 6 min miles and worrying about "cardio". I was never naturally strong, so I am enjoying seeing how far I can go with this.
