 32 entries 32 world records @ 100% Raw Y Nationals
« Thread Started on May 11, 2008, 6:23pm »

In the beautiful ballroom at the Holiday Inn Express in Plano, Texas the 2 ½ day sports event featured all types of strength competition. This was the first sanctioned competition in the state of Texas for the rapidly growing 100% RAW Federation. President Paul Bossi and took in the Olympic competition as a spectator prior to taking over the mike to oversee the first Texas state championship. The ten foot high scoreboard, displayed the lifters name, the attempt, the weight in pounds and kilos and a running time clock for the lifters attempt. The referees were all dressed in black and white referee shirts, as the loaders worked fast and furious with the color coded kilo weight set. A brand new monolift was used, but the lifting arms were not swung in accordance with the raw rules. Forty-two inch Samari swords were given along with a specially designed Texas Championship Plate that featured a raised likeness of a Texas longhorn. I don’t think anyone expected this many world records, some were set in all lifts; bench, squat, deadlift, curl and total.
The youngest lifter, Jeremy Moslow, came from Williamsville, New York. The crowd was not disappointed as Jeremy broke the 18-19 year old records in the squat, deadlift and total (198k squat, 240k deadlift, 548k total) and set new world standards. The oldest lifter, Bob Ward, is somewhat of a celebrity in these parts. Bob who is a member of the winning team, Les Cramer’s Texas School of Competitive Lifting, was the strength coach for the Dallas Cowboys under Tom Landry. Bob held the job for twelve years. This was his first Powerlifting competition and he opened with a world record in the curl and squat. Bob curled 135 pounds, then jumped to 165 pounds, made the lift, but was turned down by 2 of the judges for knee bends. Bob is 75 and weighed in at 211. Earlier in the day he won his class in the Olympic lifting event and was just a few kilos short of a Masters world record. Welcome to RAW Powerlifting, Bob.
Special Olympian, master lifter, Myles Barman, had the crowd on their feet as he took all four world records in the 198 pound class and ended the day with a 125 kilo pull and he wasn’t ready to stop lifting. Chris Leach, lifting for the local team, got 4 more world records in the 123 pound class. He is just 20 years old. In the Super Heavy Weight Class, James Campbell from Houston, established all the records and became the only lifter to enter all 7 events. James also brought in some extra equipment and did some weighins for us and we thank you very much James for the support and help! We had 6 different platforms in two rooms adjoining the lifting room due to James’ equipment.
Eight lifters competed in the curl competition and there were two versions of the lift; Up against the wall and free standing. Justin Hopkins got a double world record in the 165 pound class when he did a 67 k up against the wall and a 70 freestanding. Les Cramer the meet director also set a double world record, but of a different kind. Les had major colon cancer surgery 24 days prior to the meet; he lifted in the snatch, the Olympic press, the power clean and the curl. His first and second attempts in the curl were world records. His physician, Dr. Clifford Simmang, was in the front row, with his fingers crossed. Les now lays claim to two world records: the curl and entering and winning in a major competition less than a month out of major surgery. Les started six months of chemotherapy the day after the meet. Scott Russell got a double world record in the masters 40-44, 181 pound class with a 60k off the wall and a 67k freestanding.
This was certainly a great start for 100% RAW in the state of Texas. All final attempts by the Texas State residents will begin the new state records and will be maintained by the meet director and State chairman, Les Cramer. We want to thank our sponsors: House of Pain, Frantz’s Power Gear, Halbert Powerlifting Equipment, Titan, FIT – Scot Mendelson’s gym , At large Nutrition, Wichita Falls Equipment, Stroud’s Fitness. The meet had great attendance; great audience involvement and the venue provided beautiful comfortable accommodations. Ten percent of the lifters were drug tested as per 100% RAW guidelines. We are already planning ahead for next year’s competition.
