Hey Guys & Gals,
I had a question that I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer. I'm relatively new to powerlifting, but hope to start competing in a year or two.
My predicament is that, when I was 15, I had a brain tumor, which resulted in the loss of my pituitary and therefore most function of my thyroid as well. I have to supplement my testosterone production with AndroGEL, prescribed by my doctor of course. I also take 3-4 other meds to help replace my pituitary function (i.e. these meds keep me alive).
I've looked at the RAW Drug Testing Restrictions and haven't been able to find any info about these specific drugs. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I'll be able to compete while taking these meds.
Thanks all for your time,

Unfortunately, Androgel is banned by WADA with no allowance for a therapeutic exemption. I believe 100% RAW follows this thinking and does not allow it. Note Androgel will result in an elevated T/E ratio. Even if the T/E is below the cutoff, 100% RAW is using the polygraph more often. Several other federations allow therapeutic Androgel, one is the ADAU.
This is a troublesome issue, particularly for master powerlifters with abnormally low testosterone. Since hormone replacement therapy provides significant life benefits for those that need it, most simply resign to lift in non drug tested competitions and just have fun.

ryfralic, I have recently been named the chairman of drug testing and substance abuse for 100% RAW. Iam currently in the process of revising/rewriting the regulations and guidelines for drug testing.
Androgel is nothing more than liquid testosterone. If it is prescribed by a doctor for a legitimate purpose that no other drug would serve, then it would be covered by a TUE. There are some restrictions regarding the use of TRT/HRT that will be covered on an individual basis.
I hope to have the revised guidelines published within the next few weeks. If you have further questions about this, send me a pm and I will get back to you.
