 2009 Raw Nationals
« Thread Started on Jan 14, 2009, 1:45pm »

I spoke with Paul today about the Nationals. He asked me to post this.

The Full Power Nationals this year will be split. There will be a West Nationals (Regional?) and an Eastern National (Regional?). The West National will be in Arizona - no other info at this time.

Paul is considering holding the Eastern Nationals in Maryland in conjunction with the Single Lift Nationals. He has a been offered a large venue that would provide separate areas for the 2 events.

Here is a question for those of you who would be competing in the Nationals: The proposed date for Eastern Nationals is June 20. Father's day is June 21. Would that be a problem for any of you? The 4th of July is just 2 weeks later so if the meet is moved back a week, it will fall very close to the 4th.

Please provide input here if you are considering - or would consider - lifting in the Nationals.

I don't know if I will make Ntls., I would like too, but I will say this.
It is very nice to see 100% RAW announcing this, this far out.
I know of some other sports orgs. that wait until a few months out and that makes it very hard to plan for.

Great work guys.
Any date would work for me if I can make it.

Come on people!

27 views and only 1 response. This is your chance to have a say in one of the biggest events of the year. Is no one thinking about competing or do you just not care about the date?

Both on same day. Held in 2 separate locations at same venue. Would basically be two separate but simultaneous meets.

Nothing is set concerning either World meet yet. Leaning toward a possible October time frame - no other info at this time. I will definitely pass on further info as it becomes available.

That'll be at the start of a new semester for my wife's (weekend) grad school, so I don't know if I would even be able to attend. That being said, the 20/21 would have the advantage of not as much of a holiday travel/hotel reservation conflict.

I've not quite figured out how so many folks can travel "away" for July 4, yet they all end up going "to" the same place I'm trying to get to. Why doesn't it work out they go "away" from where I'm trying to get to?

I'm going to have to pose that question to my statistics buddy.....

:')

God Bless.

Since all types of responses were requested,
as an occasional donor (fee payer), I will say
that my plan is to lift in the ADAU Nationals
(Combined Single Lift and PL)
in Clearfield PA on July 11-12.

The 100% Nationals on June 20 would be too
close in time for me. Too bad, because if they're
in MD, it would be 5 hours less drive time each way.

Just another small example of the conflicts
caused by Federation Fractionalization.
Thank goodness that RAW United
will soon bring us all back together. ::)

BTW, the Father's Day issue would not be a factor for me.

Rick do they have a good plan to unify us or something?
I am gonna do one of there meets in Pa this year, I was just wondering what you ment.

I think there is only one way to go 1 nationals even if you put it in arizona I still say just have one.

About the only way I could go is if it were in Maryland, Northern VA, PA, or Ohio so I really do not have a say so.

Sorry, Sasquatch, sometimes I'm too sarcastic to be understood.
But no, and I'm sorry to say it, IN MY OPINION,
R.A.W. United is just one more unneeded splinter group.
Competing meets, another gazillion record holders, etc., etc.

I think reviewing travel rates help when picking a date. Holidays always in the past have shown a rate hike. Might be different this year with the economy.(?) I think the idea of two meets shows merit. How about calling it the Coast to Coast Nationals. Also as mentioned early, it allows friends and family to cheer on love ones much easier. Paul knows getting West Coast lifters to travel back East is not always easy. This would help.

Having two big meets sounds like a cool idea, but in my opinion they should not have the word Nationals in them. Nationals is supposed to be just that, by default you can't have more than one Nationals. A quick review of the posts on plwatch about this very topic shows most have a negative opinion on the idea. That alone doesn't mean we should not do it, but it is something to consider. So having a 100% RAW East Coast Championship and a West coast championship sounds pretty cool to me.

There has been one meet with a remote entry. With the high cost of travel and the ease of communication, a multi-site meet could be the most efficient means of producing a truly National Champion. The logistics may require some creativity but it could be a catalyst for a lot of interest.
